The US presidential election was this week .Throughout the beginning of the week, I constantly had people approach me asking if I was worried about the results or about the upcoming election I responded that I was confident Hillary Clinton would win, so I was not too worried; however, most people responded by saying that no one thought Brexit would happen and it happened. The night of November 8, I went to bed at around midnight because there were three states with results in and two of them supported Trump. I suspected that since they were traditionally Republican states, there was no need to worry. When I woke up the next morning and read the news, I was in absolute shock. Throughout the day, I was bombarded with remarks such as, “Megan, I’m so sorry.” and “Hahaha, Trump is your president.” But mostly, it was interesting to see how highly other countries viewed America. For instance, I’m very clueless about who the leaders of others countries are, but everyone no matter where they were from knew all about the presidential election. Even if people didn’t know the specifics, such as which parties represent what, they had a good working knowledge of each of the candidates. I felt kind of embarrassed as to how long it took me to learn the former prime minister of the U.K.’s name at that point. All in all, it was quite an interesting week especially since I was not in the U.S. to truly experience the election day and the days to follow. I’m sure it was crazy based on the countless Facebook posts I saw throughout the week.
