This past week, I began my first lab class called Pilot Plant. In this class, we get to design a procedure and operate a pilot plant with a team. It was really interesting because the plant was very high tech and had a lot of cool features that I didn't know would ever exist in a real plant. The final week of the course will be this week where we will have to turn in a 90 page report on the project. Unfortunately, this lab interferes with some of my other courses so I have to watch those classes online after they happen. Halloween weekend was this past weekend; however, there definitely is a smaller hype here than there is back home. This will be the first year in a long time that I won't have dressed up for Halloween. One of the most disappointing things was that they don't have candy corn here. When I asked other people about it, they had never heard of it before. On Saturday, I went on a day trip to Brighton, which is a coastal town in the South of England. The beach was filled with rocks and not sand. There were lots of bright colored houses. One of their main attractions is the Royal Pavillon, which was a seaside palace built for King George IV. Also, they have a massive pier with lots of amusement park rides which looked very run down and old. The trip was definitely worth it, especially since the train tickets were only seven pounds round trip. This week I have noticed that I'm starting to use more British terms more often. I'm definitely saying pounds instead of dollars more often and I've started saying "cheers" more often. There are still so many times that I've said the wrong words that people don't understand what I'm saying or vice versa. Today, I went to a Malaysian hall restaurant. My roommate is from Malaysia so she knew of this "hall" and it was located in the basement of a hotel. Mostly everyone there was from Malaysia except for our group of friends and my roommate ordered for us. The meals were really cheap though because apparently the establishment was subsidized by the Malaysian government. I had a beef and chicken curry with rice.
